VNeID is an application developed by the National Population Data Center - Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, based on the platform of population data, identification, and electronic authentication. The application is designed for people living and traveling in Vietnam. VNeID replaces traditional documents and provides digital identification for citizens, offering various services for digital citizenship, e-government, and digital society. It allows citizens to quickly declare their health status and domestic travel. Additionally, the application helps authorities trace and notify individuals about COVID- infections in a timely manner. When using the VNeID application, users grant permission for the following functions: internet access, camera access for scanning QR codes on citizen identification cards, access to photos, videos, and files on the device for storing QR code images, and receiving notifications on the user's device. Personal information collected includes name, phone number, citizen identification number, gender, date of birth, permanent address, nationality, health status, travel destinations, vehicle registration number, and contact history with COVID- infected individuals. All information is collected with the user's consent through input forms. User privacy and copyright protection are ensured as the user data is stored and secured by the National Population Data Center and the Ministry of Public Security. The data is only used for COVID- prevention and control purposes, protecting public health, and is not used for commercial purposes or privacy infringement. Data may be shared with healthcare and relevant authorities to enhance COVID- prevention and control efforts. The application developers do not collect or use user information for any other purposes and will not disclose any information that may harm user privacy or violate Vietnamese laws or application policies. VNeID does not collect location data and ensures user anonymity within the community. Only authorized agencies have access to information about COVID- infected individuals and close contacts for contact tracing purposes.
